Community Rules
There are a few things that make our community of movers and groovers so great and we’re keen to keep it that way! Here are a few things we’d love you to know to help keep a great vibe!
Don’t be a d**k!
We have nurtured an inclusive community where all people can feel safe and respected to show up as they are. Everyone is celebrated for turning up and giving Pilates a good crack. Discriminatory behaviour or comments, discussions about other peoples’ bodies or behaviour or comments that makes teachers or other students feel unsafe will not be tolerated. Any person that fails to meet this requirement will be asked to leave the studio and have their account deleted.
Booking
Classes can be booked directly via our website or the Momence app for devices. You will need a Momence account in order to do this. It is simple to set up and allows you to interact with our schedule and manage all your bookings. If you run into issues with booking your favourite class please get in touch.
Waitlists
The booking system enables us to utilise a waitlist and we highly recommend you use it if the class you want is full. If a place becomes available you will be added to the class right up to one hour before the session start time. Always assume you’ll get added and prepare accordingly!
First class with us?
Please arrive 10 minutes before class start time to meet your teacher, check in, get familiar with the studio and the lay of the land. This should also give you enough time to make sure you’ve completed all the intake questions and ensure you’re all set for the best possible experience.
First time trying Pilates?
Let’s admit it - Pilates can be a bit mind-boggling at times, especially if you’re not used to doing exercise classes. We recognise this. We’ve been there. And as such many of our ‘Group’ classes have classifications such as Beginner, Open, Power and Contrology. This allows us to tailor our classes towards particular goals:
- Beginner classes are about learning the basics, such as the basic exercises, how a piece of equipment works, how to adjust equipment to suit you and learning the ‘language’ of Pilates. The classes are delivered in a way to maximise success and learning. These classes are great for newbies.
- Open classes are about taking the basics and adding to it. Bigger movements. Bigger shapes. Things are harder and go for longer. The exercises are often either delivered in layers allowing you to choose the movement that suits you or are modifiable to suit your body. There is an emphasis on building on prior knowledge. As such we expect you either know your own version from experience or you can understand if a modification needs to be made, which can be challenging for newbies. All levels of movers are welcome. (Most of our ‘Group’ classes are this level).
- Power classes are Open classes dialled up to ‘11’. Everything is hard. Your clothes are full of sweat and you’re not sure what day of the week it is. (These are often 'special' classes that don't appear regularly...yet).
- Contrology classes are Open classes that follow a set lesson plan devised by Joseph Pilates. Where possible we keep it as close to his version and settings. These are often a great way to measure the progress of your Pilates practice.
If you’re ever unsure about which class would work best for you please don’t hesitate to ask!
Don’t be late!
Please arrive 5-10 minutes before class. Classes run on time and will not be delayed or extended for you. Understand that turning up to classes late can be disruptive for both the students and teacher and you may miss out on sections of the class.
Booking cancellations
Cancellations made more than 12 hours before class will get the session credited back, less than 12 hours and the session will be forfeited. We get that emergencies happen and also sometimes you wake up and you’re sick. If you need to cancel within the 12 hour window get in touch with us ASAP. Where possible we will aim to be as considerate as we possibly can. Please do the same.
No shows will result in the class being forfeited.
Clean your stuff
After your class we ask that you do a quick wipe-down of the equipment surfaces you used during your session. Cloths and spray bottles are provided to help make it nice and simple.
